Answer: It was a trail that was 2,000 miles long and stretched from places such as Independence, Missouri, or Council Bluffs, Iowa, west into Oregon Country.

Answer: The Bear Flag Revolt was when the Americans declared California to be an independent nation to all of the Mexicans. 

Question: Why was the Battle of San Jacinto important? 
Answer: The Battle of San Jacinto was important because it was the battle where the Texans captured Santa Anna and forced him to sign a treaty giving Texas its independence.

Question: Why were the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and The Gadsen purchase important? Explain. 
Answer: The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was important because it officially ended the Mexican-American War, and forced Mexico to turn in Northern Territory land. The Gadsen Purchase was important because the US paid Mexico $10 million in exchange of southern Mexico territory which included what is now New Mexico and Arizona.

Question: What was the rendezvous?
Answer: It was a yearly meeting where mountain men traded the beaver fur in exchange of money and it was full of celebration and story telling. 

Question: Who was Brigham Young?
Answer: Brigham Young was the leader of the Mormons after Joseph Smith died, and was the one who led the Mormons to settle down in Utah.

Question: How did the rush to the West begin? Who were the mountain men?
Answer: The rush to the West began when a beaver fur hat became very popular around the world. The beaver specie was killed off in the East so people went to the West in search of the beaver fur. The people who went in search of the fur and then traded it for money were called the mountain men. 

Question: Who were the Mormons? What were some of the causes that made the Mormons leave and settle in Utah?
Answer: The Mormons were the members of a new church founded by Joseph Smith. The causes of them settling down in Utah, were that they had different beliefs and one of them was the practice of polygamy. Polygamy was the practice of a man married to several women at a time which Americans disliked. 

Question: Why was the Santa Fe trail important? 
Answer: It was the trail that American traders followed to trade cloth and manufactured goods for horses, mules, or silver.

Question: What were two of the main battles that occurred during the Texans attempt to independence?
Answer: The battle at the Alamo, and the battle of San Jacinto. 

Question: How were the empresarios paid?


Answer: They were paid in land. 

Question: What did Texas offer to increase its population? 
Answer: Texas offered land grants which made many Americans move in. 

Question: How did the Mexicans gain their independence from Spain?
Answer: Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla led a rebellion of 80,000 poor Indians and mestizos and even though the rebellion failed, the rebellion started to grow and managed to gain indpendence.

Question: howe was Stephen F. Austin important to the settlement in Texas?
Answer: He was an impresario hired by the government who started a Texas colony and made the colony popular because to offered free land in exchange of obeying Mexican laws.

Question: What was the United State's greatest limit on building a society based on democratic principles? 
Answer: Land was the main limit. 

Question: What were some cultural reflections that occurred in America after gaining California? 
Answer: Laws were printed in both Spanish and English and many cities are named in Spanish such as San Antonio, San Diego, and Santa Barbara. 

Question: How was the Mexican Army different to the American Army when the war was just starting? 
Answer: The U.S Army had better weapons and equipment, but it was poorly prepared and the Mexican Army greatly outnumbered them. 

Question: How did President Tyler plan on increasing power of southern slave states?
Answer: He wanted to increase the power of southern slave states by annexing Texas to the United States.

Question: How did the mission system work in California? 
Answer: The mission system were carrying out farming and other operations with the labor of Native Americans. The missions sold their goods to other local towns.

Question: What was the Donner Party? 
Answer: The Donner Party was a groups of people that set out to California but got lost in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in search of a shortcut during winter and many starved and freezer. A rescue party found them but many died. 

Question: What was the most popular method used for mining? 
Answer: The most popular method used for mining was placer miners which consisted in using pans or other devices to wash golden nuggets out of loose rock and gravel .

Question: From where did many of the miners come from?
Answer: Many of the miners came from all around the world but. there was mostly Chinese people who came in search of gold. 

Question: Who was the first one to find gold in California? How was the news spread around tech world? 
Answer: John Sutter found about the gold but wanted to keep a secret until a Native American found out about it and decided to spread the word which soon spread all over the world. 

Question: What happened to all the worldwide miners after the gold rush ended?
Answer: Many left the country as soon as they found their fortune, but many decided to stay and create their own businesses.
