Answer: The Oregon trail was mainly used for people that wanted to go to Oregon and California and it wasn't protected by the U.S. troops. Then the Santa Fe Trail was used mainly for traders who wanted to trade with the Mexicans and was protected by the U.S troops

Answer: Empresarios were agents hired by the Mexican government to bring American settlers to Texas and they were paid with land

Question: Why did settlers move to Texas? What did the settlers have to do in return?
Answer: They moved to Texas becuase the Mexican government offered free land and in return the Settlers had to obey the Mexican law.

Question: What role did Stephen F. Austin play in the settlement of Texas?
Answer: He brought 300 families to Texas and started a new colony on the lower Clorado River

Question: Why did Mexico ban American settlers on the 1830's? How did the American settlers respond?
Answer: Mexico banned settlers in the 1830's because American settlers ignored Mexican laws. Mexico felt like it was loosing control over the growing American population, so they banned further settlements. The American settlers were angered and began to conisder independence form Mexico

Question: Who was Sam Houston? Why was he important? 
Answer: Sam Houston was the leader of the Texas rebels and was considered a heroe in the Bttle of San Jacinto.

Answer: They thought. The U.S  would help solve their financial and military problems

Answer: The Mexican government still considered Texas to be a stolen province

Answer: This battle was a turning point becuase America captured and controlled land that had historically belong to Mexico

Answer: Water was very important becuase it was impossible to have agriculture in the dry climate of the west without water.
