The Mender of the Roads talks about the grisly execution of Gaspard.

Answer:

Old Foulon is an aristocrat who told the starving peasants to eat grass.  He faked his death and was then found alive.  He was forced to stuff grass into his math while he was being hanged.  He was then beheaded and his head placed on a spear.

Why does Darnay plan to abandon the property of his family when he inherits it form his uncle?


Answer:

Charles plans to abandon the property of his family because his mother's dying wish was that Charles would try to make up for his families wrong-doings and cruelty to the people.  Charles plans to use whatever money is made from the property and give it back to the people.

Answer:

No, the problems in France are not over.  There is chaos and the people are still starving.
