Answer: The tundra has caribou.

Answer: The grassland ecosystem gets a medium amount of rain and houses prairie chickens.

Question: What are carnivores?
Answer: Carnivores are animals that that only eat other animals.  

Question: What are omnivores?
Answer: Omnivores are animals that eat both plants and animals.  

Question: What is the name of animals that eat only plants?
Answer: Herbivores are animals that only eat plants.

Question: What animals eat dead things?
Answer: Decomposers eat waste or dead organisms.

Question: What is a consumer?
Answer: Consumers are organisms that cannot make their own food.  

Energy in Ecosystems

Question: What is in food that animals need to survive (not nutrients)?  This travels through the ecosystem.  
Answer: Energy is in food.  

Question: Where does energy start in an ecosystem?
Answer: Energy starts with the sun.  

Question: What starts most food chains (after the sun)?
Answer: Producers start the food chain.

Question: What is a producer?
Answer: Producers are organisms that make their own food for energy.  

Question: Put these in order in a food chain:
Owl, mouse, grass, sun, mushrooms, grass, snake, grasshopper

Answer: Sun -> grass -> grasshopper -> mouse -> snake -> owl -> (dies) -> mushrooms -> grass

Answer: A niche is the role that an organism has in an ecosystem.  

Question: What does a beaver dam do?
Answer: A beaver dam creates a new "pond" or stopped up area in a river.  

Question: What do earthworms do to an environment?
Answer: Earthworms slowly dig holes in the soil, bringing oxygen to roots.  

Question: What did locusts do to change the environment?
Answer: Swarms of locusts feed on plants in farm fields.  This causes food shortages.

Answer: Answers will vary.

Question: What do fossils tell us?
Answer: Fossils are like records of what used to be alive, but are now extinct.  

Question: What is extinction?
Answer: A species that is extinct has no more members of its kind alive.

Question: What is a pesticide?
Answer: A pesticide is a poison that kills insects.

Question: What are antibiotics?
Answer: Antibiotics are medicines that are used to kill disease-causing bacteria.

Question: What happened to the bald eagle when DDT was introduced?
Answer: Bald eagle egg shells became too thin for birds to grow within.  The population dwindled.
